Our aims

Every third patient who dies of CF is still only a child or a teenager. That is why the MI - together with Mukoviszidose e.V. - has set itself the objective of ensuring that no child shall die of CF in the future! For this reason, it is essential to develop new options in terms of therapy both for children and for adults. CF is not the only disease in which the majority of all the medicines and drugs administered to child and adult patients are not approved for application in cases of CF or have not been sufficiently tested in clinical trials.

In order to achieve its objectives, the MI carries out research promotion measures in the following areas:

  • CF-related clinical trials (phase I-IV) with potential for approval and/or extension of indications and implementation in diagnostic or therapeutic guidelines
  • Expansion/support of a CF network for clinical trials (CF-CTN)
  • Epidemiological research
  • Pre-clinical projects displaying potential for development
  • "Translational" research
  • Identification of new groups of researchers, development of new ideas,  establishment of new areas of cooperation
